Documentary voting machines - Hacking democracy
Emblematic documentary of HBO about the fraud of electronic voting that occurred in the period from 2000 to 2004, which resulted in the condemnation and banning of Diebold - the then American manufacturer of electronic voting machines, which in after the ban came to Brazil, to manufacture the ballot boxes of the TSE. Filmed for three years, it shows how a democracy can be easily hacked and usurped, when the voting system does not print the vote, to prevent independent audits and recounts, as is the case in Brazil.
At the time, the United States was advancing to implant electronic products throughout the country, but after that, they decided to keep their claims under the control of the paper ballot, the only safe way to fight fraud. Only two or three states maintained the virtual vote, which in 2020 would motivate a new documentary full of denunciations.
NT: Despite being banned from the electoral service in the USA and serious convictions in the American courts, Diebold was admitted to Brazil by the TSE and started to manufacture the Brazilian ballot boxes, acting in the electoral environment for two decades, where the voting model is equally insecure as narrated in the documentary.
Documentary Electronic Ballot Boxes - Cyber War - Released in early 2020
Harri Hursti, the legendary Finnish hacker who became an election expert, gives a frightening view of the vulnerability of the technology used in some US voting systems. Despite the fact that most of the country votes for scanned paper ballots, or purely manual voting, the United States still has six states who use urns with archaic and vulnerable architecture like the Brazilian ones.
And surprisingly - for Brazilians, where 100% is held hostage by the same system - these few places, among 50 American states, occupy the time and production of HBO, to publicize the complaint worldwide.
It should be noted that the most vulnerable polls were manufactured by the same old supplier banned from the USA, but that started to operate in BRAZIL: Diebold, which was sold to Dominion Voting Systems, also denounced in the documentary and who ended up involved in the fraud charges in the elections held in November 2020.
In the USA, the discussion gains international prominence. Here, where 100% of the vote is similar to the minority of the controversial American electronic vote, such discussions are called “fake news” or “outrage to the system”.
The (unofficial) translation was done by team members who have participated in “attempts” to audit the Brazilian polls, only to conclude that the system is “inaudible”.
Documentary 2018 - Brazilian Electronic Ballot Dossier
Documentary by the production company Brasil Paralelo, which went over the anomalies of the electoral results of 2014 and 2018, the anomalies during the voting, complaints from crowds of voters feeling fraudulent, in addition to interviews with scholars in electronic voting.
The documentary only confirms the tragic Brazilian reality: we are the only country in the world, unable to fight electoral fraud, because we do not have the only instrument that confronts the virtual data from the polls: the paper, the printed vote.
